ESL Mentoring Program Coming to CareerLink in September

By Ezain Mex May, Student and Alumni Affairs Liaison, and Dr. Amanda Wilson-Echeverria, AVP, Student and Alumni Affairs

The University’s Student and Alumni Affairs Department is thrilled to announce that CareerLink, the University’s job board, will now offer an English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) mentoring program. Scheduled to launch in September 2024, this ESL mentoring program is a great opportunity for students and alumni to participate in professional development conversations.

What Does the ESL Mentoring Program Involve?

The ESL mentoring program will involve a formal, six-week session that will allow the University’s community members to talk with their peers. This mentoring program aims to promote long-term involvement, diversity, and engagement among University students and alumni who speak English as a second language.

The ESL mentoring program is structured to create meaningful connections between mentors and mentees, focusing on various areas of culture and communication. The program is designed to promote a sense of inclusivity and integration to the University community and will help participants to develop a deeper sense of belonging and involvement.

Each week, mentoring partners will meet through CareerLink’s direct messaging and/or video conferencing features. Participants will decide which communication methods are best suited for their lives and schedule. Interested participants can sign up for the experience by emailing mentor@apus.edu or access the program through CareerLink in their student and alumni ecampuses.

Our dedicated mentoring program administrators will match mentors and mentees. The selection of mentor/mentee partnerships will be based on a combination of factors, including the preferences selected by mentees, and the overlap of interests and background characteristics identified during the program registration process.

The Student and Alumni Affairs Department will provide necessary training and resources to mentors and mentees to enhance the building of strong connections.
