Chairman Peter King of the House Homeland Security Committee held a hearing on threats to the American homeland after killing bin Laden which was to be an assessment that examined the near and long term consequences and benefits to the security of the homeland. Chairman Peter King opening remarks
The chairman stated earlier today “While the removal of Bin Laden from the battlefield is certainly a victory in the war against Al Qaeda and its affiliates, it also means increased risk of retaliatory attacks against America by bin Laden supporters, just as we have seen recently in Pakistan.”
Attending the hearing as witnesses were the Honorable Lee Hamilton of the Bipartisan Policy Center, Ms. Frances Townsend (Former Homeland Security Advisor) Senior Vice President of Worldwide Government, Legal and Business Affairs with MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings, Inc. , Mr. Peter Bergen, Director of National Security Studies Program at the New America Foundation and Mr. Evan Kohlmann of the Flashpoint Global Partners.
Each of the individuals brought a unique perspective to the assessment of the continued threat to the United States and what each thought would be a future threat.
