This October is Crime Prevention Month. This event is an important time to focus on ways to reduce crime, such as ensuring home and neighborhood safety and fighting the hazard of fentanyl in our communities.
For current students, alumni, staff, and faculty who are interested in crime prevention awareness, criminal justice, and criminology, the University offers a unique student organization: the Criminology Club.

The Criminology Club Offers Guest Speaker Lectures, Networking and Other Activities
The University’s Criminology Club is a student organization that welcomes members from all degree fields or career paths. This organization’s mission is to help its members to expand their knowledge of various areas of criminology and the criminal justice system.
The Criminology Club also offers guest speakers, opportunities for academic and social interaction, and access to criminology and criminal justice research. Chapter president Erika Kingsbury states, “We also do our best to stay in the know of upcoming conferences and symposiums that might interest our members. Our guest speakers this fall have been Honorable Judge Rosie Speedlin Gonzalez, who presides over a domestic violence court in San Antonio, Texas, and the California True Crime Podcast hosts.”

A Guest Lecturer Will Speak on October 20
During Crime Prevention Month, the Criminology Club will host one of its members, Bradley Deacon, as a guest lecturer. Deacon is an author with a legal background and a cybercrime analyst for the Australian Federal Police.
His presentation will take place via a Zoom webinar on October 20 at 8 p.m. ET. to discuss his crime-fighting career and other aspects of his expertise. Current students, alumni, staff and faculty are welcome to join the webinar and should register to attend.
