Throughout your time as an online student, you will hear many tips on how to be successful in your online classes. At the start of each course, Professor Gray distributes a checklist with her students. She also advises them to read the syllabus in its entirety. These are tips that probably seem obvious after hearing them, but might be initially overlooked in the excitement of starting a new class. In this vlog, Professor Gray shares a few of the most critical points from that list for students to consider during their first week of class.
About the Speaker
Beth Gray is the Manager of Faculty Development in the Center for Teaching and Learning at APU. In this role, she oversees the design, development, and implementation of faculty training for APU online faculty. She began her tenure with the university in 2008 as the Executive Assistant to the President and CEO. In 2011, Beth also began teaching COLL100 at APU. In 2016, Beth earned her credentials as a coach and uses these skills to assist online faculty and students alike in achieving their goals. She earned her BA in History from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in 2003 and MAs in Global History and Political Science from American Public University in 2009 and 2012 respectively. Beth is currently pursuing an EdD in Leadership at American College of Education. Beth’s research interests include coaching and mentoring, student engagement in online classrooms, and leadership development.
