Content Writers Wanted for The Saber and Scroll Journal

In 2012, the Saber and Scroll Historical Society published the first issue of The Saber and Scroll Journal. The purpose of the Society and the journal is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of academic research.

In 2018, The Saber and Scroll Journal became an autonomous entity under the auspices of The APUS Historical Studies Honor Society and is now published by Westphalia Press/Policy Studies Organization in Washington, D.C.

This journal is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal that accepts submissions on any history or military history topic. Submissions can be book reviews, museum reviews or papers.

Content Requirements for the Saber and Scroll Journal

Interested in submitting content for a future issue? Here is a quick overview of our requirements:

• Papers should be between 2,500 and 8,000 words in length, not including front or back sections such as a title page or reference list.
• Book reviews should be between 800 and 1,200 words.
• All submissions should be written in Microsoft Word and submitted in .doc format. For image files, only .jpeg files should be submitted – please do not send images as .pdf, .tiff or .heic files.
• The Journal’s citation style is Chicago-Turabian (latest edition). This citation style requires the use of end notes numbered in Arabic and superscript numerals.
• Papers must include a complete, correctly formatted bibliography.
• The main text and notes should be in 12-point Times New Roman. Paragraphs should be double-spaced with a one-inch margin on all sides of each page.
• A separate cover page should be supplied with a manuscript. This cover page must contain the following information: author’s name as it should appear in print, school affiliation, email address and phone number.
• The cover page must also include a statement affirming that the manuscript has not been previously published or submitted elsewhere for publication.
• The author’s name should not appear on the paper, museum review or book review in order to preserve the anonymity of the double-blind review process.
• In addition to the main text, each journal article must include an abstract of 100-150 words and a list of 8-10 keywords.
• Authors are encouraged to incorporate at least between one and five images into their articles. All images must be of the author’s creation or in the public domain.
