To further its goal of higher educational opportunities for all, American Public University System has launched the newly revised Transfer Credit Center on the AMU and APU websites.
The new pages will assist students seeking to continue their education by converting credits earned from previous academic courses, military service, or professional training and certification to academic credit at APUS.
New TCE Site is Clearer and More Precise
In an ongoing effort to be user-friendly, the updated transfer credit pages are accessible from the homepage navigation. Previously, TCE information was located on a separate website. In addition, the new TCE has fewer pages, making it easier for prospective students to find the information they seek.
“We started with nearly 200 pages and now have less than 30,” says Jolene Passut, Associate Vice President of Transfer Students & Credit Evaluation. “The result is a clean, clear and concise directory.”
Advantages of Transfer Credit
By transferring credits from an accredited institution or from personal professional experience, students enrolling in APUS online programs will join the 87 percent of our students who have an average of 37 transfer credits. Those transfer credits can accelerate the pursuit of a degree or certificate and help save money on educational costs.
The new transfer credit program is especially well-designed for current and former servicemembers who have accumulated some college credit during their military assignments, but not enough to complete a degree. However, they could be closer to meeting their educational goals if they have had:
- ALEKS, AP, CLEP, DSST or Excelsior examinations
- Public service experience
- Professional experience in a given field
- International degrees
- Any number of other measurable sources of college-level learning
In addition, a new policy under “Associate Degree General Education Fulfillment” opens another educational opportunity. This policy allows prospective students with an associate degree from a regionally accredited institution recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) to leverage that degree to fulfill up to 30 credits of the general education requirements of a bachelor’s degree at AMU or APU. Credit may vary based on specific program requirements.
New Transfer Credit Pages Optimized for Speed and Mobile Devices
Optimized for speed, the Quick Search feature links directly to the transfer credit database lookup function for academic and non-academic credit, so detailed information is just a click away. “The ability to view the sources of non-traditional credit demonstrates our commitment to serving our unique student population and their prior learning,” Passut explained.
The mobile-responsive pages are organized by experience categories: academic credit, government training, military service and education, and professional training and certification. In addition, the Non-Academic transfer credit database displays all content by keyword search or categorical filtering.
