Timing is everything when making a career move. Don’t ask for a raise after missing an important deadline. It is also not wise to begin your job search during the summer months when most hiring manager are on vacation.

According to LinkedIn, January is globally the best month to as for a promotion, but it is not the only month. LinkedIn also found that July and September come in a close second and third.

Holiday’s and summer months are a poor time to start looking for a job as hiring manager’s take vacation. Use this time to research potential companies and directions you want to take your career. You typically need to plan your next career move six months before you actively begin your search.
