Tip of the Day: Sidestep the Drama at Work

Most people will claim they don’t like drama, but as soon as some juicy comes around they can’t help but spread it. If you can help it, stick with the facts and keep the drama on the sidelines.

According to Rachel Farrell, of CareerBuilder.com, there five good ways to deal with drama, and your passive-aggressive colleagues.

  1. Don’t let the co-worker(s) hide behind technology when they’re starting the drama, instead send a note to confront the situation in person.
  2. Keep a paper trail. This may be known to many as the CYA file. Cover yourself so there’s no doubt.
  3. Stick to the facts in the conversation.
  4. Don’t engage or encourage the behavior.
  5. Don’t be afraid to ask around and probe.

Don’t let yourself get roped into negativity in the office. It’s typically not conducive to a productive work environment, and it can cause ill feelings between yourself and others.
