Top 5 Management Skills to Not Inherit From Popular TV

Michael Scott, Ron Swanson and David Brent are all great managers, on television.

Popular shows today focus on the crazy antics in the office. Goofy staff meetings, crazy pranks and ridiculous requests fill the airwaves and make us all laugh. But there is a danger, no matter how much you like one of the characters mentioned above, try not to adapt their management style. The staff at Online Career Tips has pulled some of our favorite skills to “NOT” inherit from your favorite TV boss.

  1. Call your biggest clients on the regular. Sing them songs, tell them secrets, sit in silence, hang up on them…Doesn’t matter.
  2. If you’re gonna be late, then be late and not just 2 minutes – make it an hour and enjoy your breakfast.
  3. I would prefer that he/she ask me for my permission so I could say no. I like saying no. It lowers their enthusiasm.
  4. Demand stuff. People expect if of you. Tacos, diamonds, Connect 4, box wine, low-fat Belgian waffles, K-Mart, rain, acupressure. Really whatever you want.
  5. Avoid employing unlucky people – throw half of the pile of CVs in the bin without reading them.
