When Your Co-Worker is Out Take Charge

The dreaded vacation time, your co-worker’s time off not yours. This is the time when you may have to adopt some of their normal day-to-day activities to cover their vacant chair. Some tasks may be more time consuming, but make them your own so you better prioritize your time.

[Create Your Own Quiet Time to Be More Productive]

Here are a few tips for keeping your workload from becoming a jumbled mess with the added responsibility:

  • Ask questions. Make sure they fill you in on any tidbits you may need to know about the tasks.
  • Double check your work. Because this isn’t something you do daily you may not be used to the outcome. Be a little bit “type A” here and check to make sure all your bases are covered.
  • Take charge and own the tasks. Act as though you would do this on a daily basis that way you ensure you give it the same attention to detail and time to get it right.
